Abdul Fatawu on Sunderland’s Radar After Leicester Spell

Celebrity Fan Web  – Sunderland are evaluating a potential move for Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu as part of their aggressive summer recruitment. The newly promoted Premier League side have spent heavily to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025–26 season.

Fatawu, a 21-year-old Ghana international, is regarded as one of Leicester’s most prized assets. His current valuation stands at around £30 million. Sunderland have held early discussions to register their interest, but a formal bid is yet to be made.

Club sources suggest the deal may prove challenging due to the high asking price and the complexity of the transfer. Sunderland remain cautious, weighing the financial and sporting risks, especially after already committing a record-breaking amount this summer.

So far, Sunderland have invested £141.5 million in new talent, just short of Nottingham Forest’s £142 million outlay in 2022. That figure remains the British record for a promoted club in a single window.

Their most recent acquisition was Nordi Mukiele from Paris Saint-Germain for £9.5 million. The French defender adds depth to a squad that has already seen significant reinforcement. Sunderland also secured Granit Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen, Simon Adingra from Brighton, and Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra in a club-record £30 million deal.

Fatawu played a pivotal role in Leicester’s 2023–24 Championship-winning season while on loan from Sporting Lisbon. Leicester exercised their purchase option after promotion, making his move permanent. However, he missed much of the 2024–25 season due to a knee injury.

Despite his limited appearances, Fatawu remains a player of interest across Europe. Sunderland view him as a long-term investment with high potential upside, especially under manager Tony Mowbray’s development-focused philosophy.

Leicester’s Player Sales Open the Door as Sunderland Eye Daghim Too

Leicester City’s current financial strategy could work in Sunderland’s favor. After dropping back into the Championship, the Foxes have started offloading key players to balance their books.

Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen joined West Ham for around £20 million, while midfielder Wilfred Ndidi completed a £9 million switch to Turkish side Besiktas. Defender Conor Coady also exited, sealing a £2 million move to League One club Wrexham.

With Fatawu’s market value high and Premier League clubs circling, Leicester may consider a sale if the price is right. Sunderland, however, are not expected to rush. They remain mindful of Financial Fair Play regulations and their long-term squad structure.

In addition to Fatawu, Sunderland are also tracking Red Bull Salzburg forward Adam Daghim. The 19-year-old Denmark Under-21 international has made 49 appearances for Salzburg, scoring four goals since his move from Aarhus in 2024. Daghim fits Sunderland’s model of recruiting young, high-potential talent who can grow within the system. Preliminary talks are ongoing, but as with Fatawu, cost and availability will determine next steps.

As the transfer window enters its final stages, Sunderland continue to show intent. Their strategy blends proven experience with youth potential, signaling a clear plan to stay competitive in the top flight. The club’s pursuit of Abdul Fatawu and Adam Daghim reflects this balanced approach, though success will depend on financial prudence and strategic negotiation in the coming weeks.
