“I believe in myself, I believe in the work that I put in every day,” said Xu. She added that her growing confidence will eventually lead her to reach the top. “I’ve been developing myself and my game—my confidence will build as well. I do see myself there someday.”
Xu’s recent victory at the W100 tournament was the perfect way to cap off what has been a standout year for the young tennis player. Her success at the tournament came after a string of notable wins in Birmingham, Ilkley, and Nottingham. These wins earned her a wildcard entry into the main singles draw at Wimbledon. Wimbledon was an absolute dream, and then to win singles and doubles in Wrexham—international tennis returning to Wales after such a long time—was beyond what I could have hoped for.” The Wrexham double title, in particular, had special meaning for Xu, who recalled winning her first-ever tournament in Wrexham when she was just eight years old. “To yesterday get my biggest title, it honestly means so much to me,” she added.
Xu’s ranking has risen significantly over the past few months. Starting the week with a WTA singles ranking of 309, she now holds a career-high position of 269. “I haven’t looked too much at the rankings, but I feel like I competed really well last week and played each match as it came,” Xu explained. “I’m just so happy with the result.”

With no more age restrictions on the number of tournaments she can play now that she is 18, Xu is determined to make the most of this opportunity. She is already preparing for the W75 Glasgow tournament and is excited about the future. “I really enjoy playing the sport. I’m really lucky that this is now my job, and it’s amazing I can do that,” Xu concluded. Xu’s meteoric rise in the tennis world highlights her incredible potential and determination.
